About Trish Mercer

This is a website about my parents, Yvonne Neufeldt Strebel and Rudolf Heinz Strebel. For years I’ve wanted to write up their stories, and this past summer I felt the time was finally right.

I hope to eventually compile this as a book for posterity, but until I could complete all the research, I thought I could also share what I’ve discovered. No sense in sitting on all of this, waiting until I have time to work on it, when others might be able to benefit, and also might have additional information which could help me.

Most of all, I want Rudy and Yvonne’s posterity to know what their childhood and teen years were like during WWII. I have nine children myself who really don’t know their stories, and I need to fix that.

While I’m a mom and teacher, I’m also a writer, having published The Forest at the Edge book series. I provide those books for free in several formats, but also on Amazon, where I earn about 1-5 cents per book. I feel strongly that the plot of the books was a gift from my Heavenly Father, one that He expects me share as freely as He gave it to me. That’s because the experiences of Perrin and Mahrree are, currently in 2021, mimicking in many alarming ways what we’re experiencing right now. (I didn’t realize that at the time I started drafting this series about 10 years ago.)

I’ve also realized that what my parents experienced in the 1930s-40s is also replicating itself in our society now. In many ways, I think that WWII was the Adversary’s “trial run,” to see what worked and what could be made more horrific. And in many ways, our world is running headlong into all of it, again. But this time it will be bigger and more encompassing.

Call me a cynic, call me a conspiracy theorist, call me a whack-a-doodle (that’s my favorite: it’s so lyrical), because I don’t care. I do care, though, that warnings are issued, that experiences are understood, that we have some ammunition in our minds and hearts to face the upcoming battles. This website of my parents’ stories, and my book series, are warnings to help us help each other the best we can.

This is the best help I can offer to you and my family.

I look forward to see what help you can provide for everyone as well.
